Module 2: Family Roots (7 assignments)

Week 1

MEMORY: Write your favorite memories of grandparents- any and all grandparents or great grandparents you knew. What do you know of their early life? Record their birth and death dates (if applicable) and complete names.

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label a photo of any/all grandparents. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location.

 

Week 2

MEMORY: Write statistics that you know about your parents, including their complete names, birth dates and places, and their parents’ names. What do you know about their early life?

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label a wedding picture or other photo of your parents. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location. Scan and save their marriage certificate or any other official documents from their lives.

 

Week 3

MEMORY: Tell about your father, his character, what he did for a living, your relationship with him. What is your earliest memory of or with your father?

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label a photo of your father at any age and/or one of you with him. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location.

 

Week 4

MEMORY: Tell about your mother, her character, how she spent her time, your relationship with her. What is your earliest memory of or with your mother?

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label a photo of your mother at any age and/or one of you with her. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location.

 

Week 5

MEMORY: Record the names and order of your siblings. Describe at least one attribute or memory of each one. Who in your family were you closest to as a child? What did you do together?

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label one or more photos of your siblings at any age. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location.

 

Week 6

MEMORY: Name your aunts and uncles. Choose one or two and describe your relationship and/or a memory with them. Record a fond memory including any cousins. Write complete names, dates and places as you describe memories.

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label photos of extended family members. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location.

 

Week 7

MEMORY: Write your feelings about the family into which you were born. Take time to ponder and reflect before writing. What will you want your posterity to know about your parents and siblings and childhood?

PHOTO: Digitally scan or save and label any remaining photos from your early life that you want preserved. Be sure to label with complete names, dates, and location. If a photo has a story, write it!
